The inspiration behind this unique design was to create a chair that embodies characteristics inherent to the Head of the Family. The right angles, basic forms, and ornament elements of the chair connect the past and the present, creating a timeless object with holistic geometry. This design was brought to life using various methods including hand sketching, polystyrene modeling, and 3D modeling. The volumetric ornament on the back was crafted using a CNC milling machine, and all elements of the chair were assembled by hand in a specialized workshop.
Stool Glavy Roda is not just a chair, but a reflection of integrity through its lines, organization through its sustainable construction, and self-discipline through its ascetic and functional ergonomics. The chair measures 975 mm in height, 570 mm in width, and 525 mm in depth. The armrest and chair back position provide an ergonomic fit, ensuring comfort in use. The chair is made of wood with environmental coatings, offering the option to be colored or kept in its natural wooden look.
This design is a result of a year-long project that started in February 2019 and ended in December 2019 in Tolyatti. The conciseness of the form, the reliability of the design, and the use of environmentally friendly materials emphasize the connection with nature and traditions of old craftsmanship. The challenge was to create a real-life product with an understandable form, reliable design, and the use of affordable environmentally friendly materials. This challenge was successfully overcome, resulting in a chair that naturally fits into any interior of an office, hotel, or private home.
The Stool Glavy Roda is a testament to Igor Dydykin's creativity and expertise in design. The design team also included 3D-engineer Nikita Trofimenko, model-maker Sergey Neverov, and product photographer Anzelika Dydykina. Their collective efforts resulted in a design that was awarded Silver in A' Furniture Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
In conclusion, Stool Glavy Roda is a perfect example of how design can embody timeless values and characteristics. Its unique properties and eco-friendly materials make it not just a piece of furniture, but a symbol of integrity, organization, and self-discipline. This design is a testament to Igor Dydykin's creativity and commitment to sustainable design, making it a worthy recipient of the Silver A' Furniture Design Award.
